2019 Keynote Speaker - Lee Marek



LEE MAREK taught Chem 101 and did the Chem Demos and teacher programs at UIC for 12 years. He taught AP chemistry & chemistry at Naperville North H.S. for over 30 years. His students have won national recognition in the International Chemistry Olympiad, the Westinghouse Science Talent Search, and the Internet Science and Technology Fair. For 13 summers he helped to run a history of science programs in Europe. Lee has helped to run over 600 workshops/programs for teachers, students and the general public in the past 30 years.  He helped to start up and ran a teachers alliance group [over 400 teachers] called CHEMWEST in the Chicago area.   Among the awards Lee has received are the Presidential Award, ACS's James Bryant Conant Award, and ACS Helen Free Award for Public Outreach, Golden Apple Awardee, Sigma Xiand CMA's National Catalyst Award for Teaching. Lee was a regular on "The David Letterman Show" since 1990 doing science infotainment over 30 times. He was a Woodrow Wilson Chem. Team leader for 10 years and a Flinn Team leader for 9 years. He received a B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Illinois and M.S. degrees in chemistry and another in physics from Roosevelt University in Chicago. He has done additional work at over 20 other colleges and universities.  His vita and other info on programs can be found on his web page:

About the Conference

The Colorado Science Conference for Professional Development is a one-day conference that provides professional development regarding science content, education strategy, and research. 

Our conference is geared towards anyone interested in science education, including K-12 teachers, college instructors, informal educators, administrators, pre-service teachers, and retired teachers. In addition, the Colorado Science Conference provides 5 hours of re-licensure credit.

As always, the conference will feature presentations regarding the science content areas of biology, chemistry, earth and space science, physics, and environmental science within the education settings of Early Childhood Education, K-12, College, and Informal Education.
